| The present research investigated the potential development of Iranian EFL learners' writing through classroom oral presentations, individual concept mapping, and collaborative concept mapping approaches. Thus, 83 intermediate-level females aged 17-24 were chosen. They were assigned to two experimental groups and one control group, for which a language proficiency test was given for homogeneity. In the last session, the participants in the experimental groups of the study were invited to share their perspectives in semi-structured interviews. A post-test was administered with the aim of determining the level of improvement realized after the treatment sessions. The findings of this study, based on an explanatory sequential mixed method design, indicated that there was a positive effect of the oral presentation and concept mapping approaches on the writing process. In addition, instructors' one-way ANCOVA results confirmed that the group that underwent both oral presentation and collaborative concept mapping scored better in comparison to those who underwent oral presentation and concept mapping separately. Moreover, semi-structured interview results determined that writing ability can be developed through oral presentations and concept mapping strategies, both separately and collaboratively. The research has significance for instructional and institutional policy makers regarding how to improve the writing capacity of English language learners. |
