چکیده مقاله
The present study examined the differential effects of incidental and planned form-focused instruction (FFI) on the writing performance of Iranian English as a Foreign Language (EFL) learners with distinct personality traits. This study employed a quasi-experimental design. The initial population was 200 female EFL students who were selected from Chamran High School in Tehran. Based on their scores on the Preliminary English Test (PET), 120 intermediate EFL students were chosen as the participants of the study. Then, they were classified as introverted and extroverted students using the Eysenck Personality Questionnaire Revised-Short Form. Next, they were randomly divided into two experimental groups, namely incidental and planned FFI, and they took the writing pretest. Afterward, they received the instruction in 10 60-minute sessions, and at the end of the treatment, the writing posttest was held. The findings showed that extroverted students significantly outperformed the introverted ones when exposed to incidental FFI. However, no significant difference was observed between experimental groups among introverted learners. These results indicate the significance of customizing instruction based on students’ personality attributes to improve EFL learners’ writing proficiency.
