| Abstract: In recent years, the use of modern technologies, especially artificial intelligence (AI), has significantly expanded in the field of second language education. This study aimed to analyze the effect of AI on the development of oral communication skills (OCS), including speaking and listening, through a meta-synthesis of published qualitative research. A systematic search was conducted across nine databases: Google Scholar, ScienceDirect, Oxford Journals, Cambridge Journals, Magiran, Normagz, Springer, DOAJ, and PubMed. Using controlled keywords related to AI and English language learning the initial corpus was selected. The final selection process was done based on the PRISMA flow commonly used in meta-synthesis. Ten qualitative studies published between 2015 and 2024 were finally synthesized through open and axial coding. The findings revealed that AI improves language skills and components, including pronunciation, fluency, vocabulary, and grammar; supports user-friendliness, accessibility, and flexibility; enhances feedback and evaluation processes; positively affects learners’ feelings and emotions; and facilitates personalization, learner autonomy, and engagement. These results provide valuable implications for educators and curriculum designers in English language education. |
