چکیده مقاله
Abstract
This review paper examines the role of YouTube-based learning in enhancing English language learners’ listening and pronunciation skills within the framework of Pedagogical Content Knowledge (PCK). As technology has become a central part of English language teaching (ELT), platforms such as YouTube offer authentic, multimodal, and easily accessible resources that can support both teachers and learners. This paper reviews recent empirical and theoretical research to understand how YouTube contributes to language learning and how its effectiveness depends on pedagogical integration.
Findings from the reviewed studies indicate that YouTube provides learners with exposure to real-world English, a range of accents, and natural speech patterns that support listening comprehension and pronunciation accuracy. It also increases motivation and supports self-regulated learning, allowing students to control their pace and focus on areas of difficulty. However, the review highlights that the success of YouTube-based learning largely depends on teachers’ ability to apply PCK and TPACK frameworks, combining content, pedagogical, and technological knowledge to design meaningful learning tasks.
Drawing on concepts from digital pedagogy and cross-cultural learning, this paper argues that YouTube is more than a source of language input; it is a space for creativity, intercultural understanding, and learner autonomy. The review concludes that when teachers use YouTube with clear objectives and within a coherent teaching plan, it can significantly enhance English teaching and learning in today’s technology-supported classrooms.
