چکیده مقاله
Pedagogical Content Knowledge (PCK) has become a central construct in contemporary teacher education, shaping how teachers transform disciplinary content into meaningful learning experiences. As digital technologies continue to influence instructional practices, understanding how teachers develop PCK through both traditional and technology-mediated strategies has gained increased importance—especially in EFL contexts where the pedagogical demands are highly dynamic. Despite this growing relevance, limited research has examined the fine-grained micro-strategies teachers use in their daily practice and how digital mediation tools support the development of PCK within the Iranian EFL teaching context.
Addressing this gap, the present study explores how emerging micro-strategies and digital tools contribute to the development of PCK among EFL teachers in Iran. Using a qualitative design, data were collected from 8 Iranian EFL teachers through semi-structured interviews, classroom observations, and reflective narratives. The data were analyzed thematically using MAXQDA to identify recurring patterns and interpretive categories.
Findings show that teachers employed micro-strategies such as targeted scaffolding, multimodal explanation techniques, adaptive questioning, and real-time feedback loops that strengthened the transformation of language content into teachable formats. Digital mediation tools—including interactive platforms, mobile-assisted applications, and digital whiteboards—were found to enhance these strategies by enabling clearer content visualization, more precise formative assessment, and greater responsiveness to learner needs. Moreover, digital platforms supported collaborative professional learning, further enriching teachers’ PCK development. The study highlights the interplay between micro-strategies and digital mediation as a significant catalyst for strengthening PCK in EFL classrooms and offers implications for technology-supported teacher education in Iran.
