Gamification in Teaching English to Generation Z: Enhancing Engagement in Blended Learning Environments

Gamification has been considered as a transformative pedagogical approach in instructive contexts, especially in language acquisition. According to this paper the effectiveness of gamification in teaching English to Generation Z students within blended learning environments is reviewed. A systematic review of relevant literature was organized, aiming on studies that highlight the advantages of gamified elements on student involvement, motivation, and learning outcomes. Findings demonstrate that gamification noticeably enhances motivation, fosters collaborative learning, and it also improves language retention among Generation Z learners. Moreover, the incorporation of game mechanics like points, badges, and leaderboards not only formulate a challenging yet supportive learning atmosphere but also furnish to the digital natives' preferences for interactive and engaging educational experiences. The discussion accentuate the necessity for instructors to integrate gamification thoughtfully to maximize its benefits while refraining potential deficiency such as overemphasis on competition. Suggestions for future research involve exploring the long-term effects of gamification and its applicability across various educational environment, as well as exploring the potential of gamification to aid distinguished instruction.
