The Facilitators of and Barriers to Conducting TEFL Researches: Voices from Iranian Teacher Education Faculty Members

This qualitative study attempted to investigate and analyze teacher education faculty members’ attitudes and perceptions toward facilitators of and barriers to conducting research at teacher training universities of Iran. To achieve this goal, twelve faculty members were selected and interviewed through semi-structured interviews. Interviews were thematically analyzed, investigated. Have the data analyzed, two themes and five subthemes manifested. The first theme was personal factors affecting faculty members’ participation in conducting research with two subthemes, “personal knowledge and competencies” and “intrinsic and extrinsic motivation”. Structural factors affecting faculty members’ participation in conducting research with three subthemes, “financial support and promotion” “slow pace of internet and filtering” and “publication policies”, was the second one. Each theme and subtheme were discussed elaborately and some suggestions were provided. The findings reported in this article implicate on the future researchers for reanalyze and fill the gaps (limitations reported such as difference between countries) in order to gather a unique perspective in this era.
