The Impact of MALL on the Listening Comprehension Performance of Iranian EFL Learners in Flipped Classrooms

Abstract:
The present research aimed to examine the effects of applying flipped learning on Iranian intermediate EFL learners’ listening ability. In order to fulfill this purpose, 90 out of 120 Iranian intermediate EFL learners (12 to 16 years) were selected through an OPT and they were divided into three equal groups. The first group as the first experimental group received mobile assisted flipped learning (MAFL); the second experimental group received non-mobile assisted flipped learning (n-MAFL) and the control group received a conventional method. Listening pre- and post-tests were administered to all participants to evaluate their listening ability. The results demonstrated that both MAFL and n-MAFL groups outperformed significantly the control group in listening ability. In addition, the MAFL group outperformed significantly the n-MAFL group in listening ability. It can be suggested that there were strong benefits to EFL learners to devote their energy and time to learn English via flipped learning approach.
