چکیده مقاله
The objective of this study was to identify the types of sentence structure errors found in written paragraphs composed by Iranian bilingual male English learners using computers, along with exploring the underlying causes of these errors. Employing an explanatory mixed-method design, the research involved Iranian high school students from two schools in northwest Iran. Utilizing a document analysis and some interviews, the study sought to gather the data. The quantitative outcomes, derived from document analyses revealed four primary types of sentence structure errors among students: Omission, deletion, misformation, and misordering. These errors were observed to be widespread across the domains of words, phrases, and clauses. Moreover, interviews revealed that elements contributing to sentence errors included interference from learners' native language, overgeneralization of English language rules, and computer-mediated typing. Moreover, the majority (n=50, 85%) of the participants reported using Persian rather than Turkish as their main language. Drawing on the data, the research contextualized the findings through the lens of interlanguage theory, offering a discussion that incorporated relevant theories from second language acquisition (SLA) and EFL pedagogy. The aim was to propose viable strategies aimed at mitigating the factors that lead to English sentence structure errors in writing skills.
