| چکیده مقاله |
| The integration of artificial intelligence (AI) into educational practices is reshaping language instruction, yet empirical evidence on its impact in non-English-speaking EFL contexts, particularly in Iranian higher education, remains limited. Existing studies discuss adult learners in English-dominant environments, leaving a gap in understanding how AI-supported instruction influences writing performance and motivation in EFL university students. This study addresses this gap by investigating the effects of ChatGPT-assisted writing on paragraph writing skills and motivation among second-year Iranian female undergraduates. Forty-six students were divided into experimental (AI-supported) and control (traditional instruction) groups, each comprising 23 students. Over 10 weeks, the experimental group (EG) integrated ChatGPT into the writing stages, while the control group (CG) followed textbook-based, teacher-led instruction. A pre-test/post-test design measured writing performance using an analytic rubric and assessed motivation through a validated questionnaire. Data analysis included paired samples t-tests and independent samples t-tests, with effect sizes and confidence intervals reported. Results showed that the EG significantly outperformed the CG in both writing performance and motivation, with large effect sizes (η²= 0.44 for writing, η²= 0.67 for motivation). These findings underscor the use of AI in language education by demonstrating its substantial pedagogical value in EFL contexts, offering evidence that AI tools can meaningfully enhance both skill development and learner engagement. |
